Mayor, City Leaders, Celebrate Buckhead Atlanta During Topping–Out Ceremony
January 17, 2014
A steel beam signed by city leaders today marks a major milestone for the development of Atlanta’s newest luxury destination.
Atlanta business and community leaders, including Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, gathered with more than 600 construction workers to celebrate the “topping out” of Buckhead Atlanta. Topping outs are a tradition on most construction sites, signaling the completion of vertical construction.
“Today is a celebration of everyone who has helped us along this path,” said Morgan Dene Oliver, CEO of San Diego-based developer OliverMcMillan. “We are so fortunate for all the wonderful support we have had from Atlanta’s elected officials, our banks, our design and architecture team, and the hundreds of talented craftsmen and construction crew members who are working with us to build Buckhead Atlanta into a memorable destination.”
Buckhead Atlanta is located in the heart of Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead neighborhood, on eight acres across six city blocks at the intersection of Peachtree and East Paces Ferry roads. Designed to fit seamlessly into the existing Buckhead Village, Buckhead Atlanta will have pedestrian-friendly streets, lush landscaping, upscale residences, great food and luxury retail shops.
“I’m grateful for the hard work and dedication of OliverMcMillan and Balfour Beatty in bringing this transformative project one step closer to completion,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “All Atlantans, myself included, are excited that we will soon be visiting this world-class destination. This project is a symbol of our city’s continued economic growth and perseverance even in the face of difficult times.”
Buckhead Atlanta’s first retailers and restaurants will open their doors this summer. New stores and restaurants will continue to be unveiled throughout 2014 and into 2015.
“Buckhead Atlanta will take shape over the course of this year much like painting,” said Hunter Richardson, managing director of development for OliverMcMillan. “New tenants and streetscape details will be added much like a painter adds layers of colors to the canvas to create the finished work of art.”
Upon completion in 2015, Buckhead Atlanta will total approximately 1.5 million square feet. It will include 300,000 square feet of upscale retail stores, restaurants and cafes, more than 100,000 square feet of office space, and 370 luxury high-rise residences.
